UCP and Achieve Tahoe Team Up For Adaptive Snowsports

Each year, the mountains of Lake Tahoe transform into a space of possibility, and for participants in UCP’s Adaptive Snowsports Day Trip, that promise becomes a reality. In partnership with Achieve Tahoe, this annual excursion invites both kids and adults of all abilities to experience the thrill of gliding across fresh powder in a supportive, inclusive environment. Whether participants are stepping into skis for the first time or returning as seasoned riders, the day is centered on joy, confidence, and connection.

Achieve Tahoe’s program is designed to meet each individual exactly where they are, offering specialized instruction and adaptive equipment that make skiing and snowboarding accessible to nearly everyone. With PSIA-certified instructors and trained volunteers, participants can explore a range of techniques, from traditional stand-up skiing to adaptive methods like bi-skis and outriggers, all tailored to their unique needs. The program emphasizes building independence and confidence through outdoor recreation, ensuring that every run down the mountain is both safe and empowering. New this year, snowboarders also joined in on the fun, expanding opportunities for even more participants to find their rhythm on the slopes.

More than just a day trip, this experience is about community and transformation. Participants not only learned new skills, but also gained a sense of freedom and accomplishment that extended far beyond the mountain. Programs like this foster confidence, resilience, and independence in individuals with disabilities, helping them carry those lessons into everyday life. As laughter echoed across the snowy landscape and milestones were celebrated, big and small, UCP’s Adaptive Snowsports Trip created unforgettable moments in the heart of Tahoe.
