MESSAGE FROM THE CEO PRESIDENT One of the best parts of my job is visiting UCP’s programs and watching our staff and clients, children and adults with developmental disabilities, interact. I see the pride our clients feel when they are treated as individuals; when they are not judged by their disabilities but viewed for their achievements. I see how they thrive when they master a skill or gain steps toward independence. UCP works tirelessly to create new possibilities for children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families. We’ve seen firsthand how clients excel in an environment filled with opportunities to grow and succeed. Every day, I’m inspired by watching our team members teach independent living, communication and socialization skills to the children and adults enrolled in our programs. They understand the importance of caring for a child with developmental disabilities so a tired parent can take a much-needed break and come back with a refreshed and revitalized spirit. Our team members create possibilities every time they transport a client to and from UCP programs, knowing each trip helps open doors to new and exciting opportunities. It’s a rewarding job and I’m lucky to work with such great clients and a great team. Together, we’ve accomplished a lot over the past year. These are our top three achievements: 1. Adapting to Change: We have become the largest non-medical supporter for individuals with autism and their families in our area. In fact, 51% percent of our clients have autism. So, how did we move from serving only people with cerebral palsy to supporting 1,147 individuals with autism? By following our mission of ensuring no one with a development disability is excluded or isolated. Today – autism is the most diagnosed developmental disability and we’re committed to giving those living with autism new possibilities and opportunities. 2. Efficiency: We continue to put our revenues into programs and services. Today, 90 cents of every dollar support services to children, adults and their families. 3. Growth: The growth of UCP means we serve more people. Our UCP Family Respite program served an additional 304 families this year and the UCP Autism Center for Excellence (ACE) is serving more children in a broader age range. We’ve added in-home applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy services for ACE families and ACE has increased its number of client service hours by 26% this year. At the end of the day, I’m proud to see our clients engaged and enjoying life. Your support ensures they are doing more than existing – they are reaching new levels and living a life without limits. In my eyes, the possibilities are endless. Thank you, Doug Bergman CEO President page 3
