Scholarships and Education Funding for Students with Disabilities

  • AmeriCorps Education credit (max $6,000 for a year of full time volunteer service) plus basic living stipend

  • Texas A&M has a number of scholarships for students with disabilities

  • Arizona State University also has about 15 scholarships for students with disabilities. Type in “disability” in the key word field in their scholarship search engine.

  • ABC Law Centers MCPA Achievements and Abilities Scholarship ($1,000)

  • Lawrence Madeiros Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to High School Seniors living with a chronic disorder and continuing their education at a college or university ($1,000)

  • Incight scholarship for people with disabilities ($500-1500), must be resident of CA, WA, or OR

  • The Pine Cone Foundation (PCF) is a 501c3 organization that awards multi-year scholarships to students with documented learning disabilities across the state of California who aspire to attend community college.  Max of $3500 over 3 years, $250 per semester at community college, plus a $2,000 scholarship awarded upon transfer to a 4-year university

  • Academy of Special Dreams awards scholarships to students with disabilities pursuing a higher education in the arts.

  • Entry Point is a paid internship opportunity for students with disabilities in STEM fields

  • NBC Universal Tony Coelho Media Scholarship from the American Association of People with Disabilities provides scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities who are interested in pursuing a career in the communications, media, or entertainment industry. Each recipient will receive $5,625 to help cover the cost of education at their current college or university.

  • Ups for Downs awards $2500 scholarships to individuals with Down syndrome, or siblings of a person with Down syndrome.

  • Scooters ‘N Chairs offers a scholarship to manual or power wheelchair users who are in a 2-year or 4-year educational higher education program.

  • Allegra Ford Thomas Scholarship is a one-time $2,500 scholarship awarded to a graduating high school senior with a documented learning disability (LD) and/or ADHD who will be enrolled in a two-year community college, a vocational or technical training program, or a specialized program for students with LD and/or ADHD in the fall.

  • The Anne Ford Scholarship is a $10,000 scholarship ($2,500/year over four years) granted to a graduating high school senior with a documented learning disability (LD) and/or ADHD who will be enrolled in a full-time bachelor’s degree program in the fall.

  • The Disabled Student Scholarship is a $500 scholarship for students who have a debilitating condition(s) while continuing their education at a college institution. The condition can be any medically diagnosed impairment (physical or mental) that interferes with everyday activities and quality of life.
